The science behind Neopigg® Shield

The science behind Neopigg® Shield

How feed can help you reduce reliance on antibiotics and therapeutic zinc

When using feed to stimulate piglet growth it is recommended to seek high quality ingredients as they are likely to contain higher and more consistent nutritional values. The mechanisms that occur within a piglet's body, and by which nutrients are metabolized, can also be affected by the level of nutrient quality. How can you know? By requesting analysis reports or testing your feed samples regularly, i.e. via NIR analysis.

When striving to maintain optimal and healthy piglet growth whilst reducing the reliance on antibiotics and therapeutic zinc, a holistic nutritional approach is needed. Four modes of action are critical in reducing the need for antibiotics and therapeutic zinc in weaned piglets, they are;

  • Protein digestion
  • Mucin effect
  • Immunity regulation
  • Intestinal flora

Each mode of action has a role to play and requires specific nutritional ingredients to maximize its ability to function properly in the piglet digestive system. Cargill has spent four years researching the ingredients and formulations that allow these modes of action to be incorporated in one concept. Understanding these mechanisms is critical when aiming to maintain piglet growth whilst reducing the reliance on antibiotic and therapeutic zinc.

Neopigg® Shield Concept: how it works

Protein digestion: Neopigg® Shield contains a highly digestible protein. The piglet’s growth potential will be utilized without overloading the hind gut with undigested protein.

See what Neopigg® Shield can do for you:

Mucin effect: maintains the integrity and strengthens the barrier of the intestinal wall post weaning when the gut is most vulnerable.

See what Neopigg® Shield can do for you:

Immune regulation: supports the prevention of large inflammation and provides the building blocks for good immune system development.

See what Neopigg® Shield can do for you:

Intestinal flora: stimulates colonization of beneficial microbes in the gut, reducing the chance for pathogens to create disorders.
